The Mini Flash 3 is the latest development in the world-famous Mini Flash series of macro flashes. It features Sony TTL and the option to disable learning mode, while retaining all the incredible features and full accessory compatibility that have made the Mini Flash series a favorite among macro enthusiasts.

The Mini Flash 3 is equipped with numerous features, including Olympus/OM System and Sony TTL, remote flash control, high-speed synchronization, test mode, emergency signal function, fast charging times, and LED lights that are twice as bright as those of the Mini Flash 1. The Mini Flash 3 also uses the exact same creative lighting accessories as the original Mini Flash strobes.

TTL AUTOMATIC FOR OLYMPUS CAMERAS

The Backscatter Mini Flash 3 is compatible with the TTL protocol from Olympus and OM System via RC mode and with Sony via their native TTL language. In our tests, the Olympus RC system and Sony's native TTL delivered the most consistent and accurate TTL exposures of any underwater system.

Olympus & OM System TTL can be achieved with clip-on and built-in flashes, housings with integrated RC flash triggers such as the Backscatter E-M10 IV Octo Housing, or with the Backscatter Universal Flash Trigger for Olympus and OM System. Sony TTL can be used with the Backscatter Universal Flash Trigger for Sony and the Backscatter Nauticam Flash Trigger for Sony.

The Mini Flash 3 also features an option for finely tuned macro TTL. Most TTL systems from camera manufacturers are not optimized for close-up macro photography. This usually results in TTL not working well at short distances and lower flash power in the macro range, leading to overexposed images. The Mini Flash 3 has a TTL mode specifically tailored for macro photography, which provides better and more accurate exposure compared to other available systems.

WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL

The Backscatter Mini Flash 3 has a remote transmit and receive function for wireless remote control and triggering.

The remote control system works by allowing the main flash unit to remotely control the power of the other Mini Flash 3 receiver flash units. The included light guide attaches to the Mini Flash 3's fiber optic mount and allows the signal from the transmitter flash unit to be received without the need for a fiber optic cable or electronic trigger. The Mini Flash 3 can remotely transmit and receive power levels to and from the Mini Flash 2 and Hybrid Flash.

No cables and no reaching for a remote flash to change power levels means less mud from walking around or potentially scaring the creature you want to photograph.

This is great for remote lighting next to the camera, backlighting, and snooting with the Backscatter Remote Lighting Muck Stick. Remote lighting is now easy to set up and a breeze to use.

HIGH-SPEED SYNC

High Speed Sync (HSS) allows the camera to use faster shutter speeds than the camera's flash sync speed by using a special mode on the underwater flash. HSS allows for larger apertures while maintaining a darker background than would be possible with slower shutter speeds.

Mirrorless cameras from Olympus and OM System can use HSS via Olympus RC mode with compatible housings such as the Backscatter E-M10 IV Octo Housing for the Olympus E-M10 IV camera or with the Backscatter Smart Control Trigger for Sony. Sony cameras can also use the Backscatter Smart Control Trigger to access HSS. Mirrorless and SLR cameras from other brands, including Sony, Nikon, and Canon, with third-party flash triggers that support HSS, such as UW Technics and the Turtle Trigger from TRT Electronics.
